Competitive Programs

 Programs That Deliver

At John’s Academy of Gymnastics, every athlete has the opportunity to experience the excitement of competitive gymnastics. Our recreational program serves as the foundation for all future competitive pathways, and our staff continually evaluates students to ensure they are placed in the program that best supports their development and long-term success.

We identify promising athletes as young as three years old. Those who show early coordination, focus, and enthusiasm are invited into our Hot Shots program for ages 3–4. This is the first step on the pathway toward the USA Gymnastics Development Program. Beginning at age five, athletes who demonstrate the physical ability, work ethic, and passion needed for success in the Development Program are invited to join Pre-Team. Pre-Team athletes train to progress into Level 3, the entry level of the USAG Development Program competitive structure at JAG.

For athletes age six and older who love the sport but desire a less intensive competitive experience, we offer placement within the Xcel Program. Xcel provides a flexible, recreational competitive track designed for athletes who want to compete for fun in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

Across all invitational pathways, our mission remains the same:

To develop strong foundations, build confidence through discipline and structure, and guide our athletes toward reaching their full potential - whether that leads to success within the USAG Development Program, the Xcel Program, or ultimately, collegiate gymnastics opportunities.

Hot Shots is an invitational-level program for students ages 3–5. This program identifies promising young athletes from within our recreational classes and introduces them to the first steps of our competitive pathway. Hot Shots serves as the foundation for developing gymnasts who may later join our Development Program Team.

What Hot Shots Athletes Learn:

✓ Strong fundamentals on all four women's artistic gymnastics events

✓ Strength and flexibility development

✓ Discipline and focus required for competitive gymnastics

✓ Foundation skills for Development Program progression

Enrollment in Hot Shots reflects that the athlete and her family are ready to explore the long-term commitment of competitive gymnastics. At age 5, Hot Shots athletes are evaluated for advancement into our Pre-Team Program.
